The meeting opened at 3.15 pm

Items arising:

Ø      Deadline for submissions to Pittwater Council Volunteer Awards had passed.  In future M Morris to scan correspondence and email to committee members to avoid missing deadlines.

Ø      M Wiener to attend Pittwater 21 Development Control Plan Review-Amendment 5 public meeting on Thursday 7 May.  K Lambert to prepare submission.

Ø      Discussion regarding use of garbage bins on ferry wharves by summer visitors on moorings.  Contact Pittwater Council in Spring to suggest increasing number of collections in the summer months.

Ø      WPCA to join Waterfront Action Group as a community group but would not support the class action against the Dept of Lands.  $150 subscription.

Ø      Review of Draft Minutes of the AGM.  M Wiener and J Jobson to email corrections to M Morris.

 

Ø      Pittwater Council’s draft 2009-2010 Budget & 4 year Management Plan discussed.  M Wiener to speak to councillors and management.  Concern expressed over sale of blocks of land and reserves.  Previous requests regarding tracks, reversing mirror at Cargo Wharf and pedestrian crossing at Church Point go unanswered by Council.  WPCA interests do not appear to be covered in the Budget and Management Plan.  Decision to write to Council for clarification and to speak to SIRA.

Ø      Letter to be written to our Ward Councillors and the Mayor introducing new WPCA committee, with follow-ups after each meeting regarding business with the Council.

Ø      Pittwater Council Portfolio Committees have been replaced by Reference Groups relating to Council’s Strategic Plan, giving community groups an opportunity to have input.  The following are WPCA’s representatives:

Community, Recreation & Economic Development – Paul Purvis

Natural Environment – Alan Yuille & Michael Doherty

Governance – Graham Earl

Planning an Integrated Built Environment – Lesley Stevens & Michael Wiener

Ø      Elvina Bay wharf sheds are to be rebuilt.  K Lambert to write to thank Council for changes made to Hall’s Wharf shed and to make suggestions regarding changes to Lovett Bay shed.

Ø      Currawong.  Letters to be written to Shane Withington & Friends of Currawong, to the Minister for Planning, to the Mayor of Pittwater Council and to our MP Rob Stokes.

Ø      Additions to the website continue.

Ø      Pittwater YHA bush regen. weekend on 29 & 30 May has 32 resident volunteers, 15 day visitors confirmed and openings for locals to help during the day.  Sponsors include Pittwater Natural Heritage Assoc., NPWS, Church Point Ferry Service, Hawkesbury Nepean Catchment Management Authority and Pittwater Council.

 

New Business:

Ø      Reminder regarding bulk buy of Solar Panels to take advantage of the Federal Government’s solar energy rebate and to help Pittwater High School become fully powered by solar energy.
